Note: Unigroup should be receiving Complimentary PC Expo passes shortly and plans on giving them out at this meeting.
Over the years, LAN design has become more and more complex. New protocols and products are constantly being introduced as network speeds continue to increase. This month's Unigroup presentation aims to not only present our members with general information about the latest network technologies, but also to provide us with some "down and dirty" details of LAN design.
This month's meeting topic is LAN Technologies and our speakers for this meeting are Ike Mustafa, Eastern Regional Sales Manager and Tony Stramandinoli, Systems Network Engineer from Standard Microsystems Corporation
Tony Stramandinoli will present and discuss emerging LAN technologies focusing on Fast Ethernet, Switching, Network Management and ATM.
SMC is a public company (SMSC-NASD) who is a market leader in LAN (Local Area Networks) and VLSI (Integrated Circuits) technologies for over twenty-five years. SMC manufactures network adapters (Token Ring, Ethernet & Arcnet), Hubs, MAUs, Switches, SNMP Management, ATM, Super I/O ICs, VLSI and other network products.
Here is a message from Ike Mustafa:
SMC's goal is to add value to each member by providing highly technical information on today's emerging LAN technologies. SMC invites all the members of Unigroup to play an interactive role during the presentation by asking questions and bringing any network case studies or network problems for discussion. In the spirit of having fun, SMC will be giving out door prizes to Unigroup members. Tony and I look forward to meeting everyone on Thursday, May 15, 1997.
The following is an outline of selected topics from a sample presentation that Unigroup received from SMC. While we do not know if this exact same presentation will be given, this outline will hopefully be representative of the topics SMC will be presenting at this meeting:
Demand for Bandwidth Memory and Buffering 100Base-T Fast Ethernet Static / Dynamic Memory, Addressing 100Base-T Advantages Blocking & Non-Blocking Architecture CSMA/CD MAC Protocol HOL Blocking Fast Ethernet Cabling Support Latency Fast Ethernet 100Base-TX Spanning Tree Protocol Fast Ethernet 100Base-T4 Packet Filtering Fast Ethernet 100Base-FX Flow Control Fast Ethernet Repeaters Full Duplex Class I Repeater Connectivity VLANs Class II Repeater Connectivity What is RMON, RMON2, RMON MIB What is an Ethernet Switch Port Mirroring Why is Ethernet Switching Appealing Segmented Ethernet Workgroups Why is Switching Important Where is Fast Ethernet Headed Switch Forwarding
Please join us for this meeting, you won't want to miss it!
