Introduction:

There have been many recent exciting advances in storage technology. Network Attached Storage (NAS) has become mainstream with products such as Quantum's Snap! Server. Storage Area Networks (SANs) have become an important part of large data stores. And perhaps best of all, 160Mb/s LVD SCSI adaptors and 15,000 RPM LVD SCSI Drives are now available for Intel Architecture machines. Tape technology is perhaps lagging behind that of hard disks, but there is now a good selection of high capacity drives out there ranging from DDS4 and AIT to DLT.

The next Unigroup meeting will present a Technology Brief on Data Storage Technology, addressing these new and interesting technologies.
